Transfers

Continuing with the January transfers , February 1, 5 P.M. marks the end of winter transfer activity in England. The top transfers in my view on the last day have been..

  • Nicky Shorey (loan from Aston Villa to Fulham)

After recently returning from a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, former Reading player, Nicky Shorey has been loaned out to Londoners – Fulham. Fulham lost regular left back Konchesky to injury and Shorey seems like a great replacement. The loan deal runs till the end of the season.

  • David Nugent (loan from Portsmouth to Burnley)

David Nugent’s loan deal from Portsmouth to Burnley has been extended now till end of the premier league campaign. He’s scored three goals in seventeen appearances for the Clarets. Lying in the relegation battle, he would prove to be an invaluable asset to Brian Law’s Burnley.

  • Benni McCarthy (Blackburn Rovers to West Ham United)

West Ham United have signed South African international, Benni McCarthy to help ease their woes when it comes to scoring goals. The striker moved from Lancashire to London on an undisclosed fee after penning down a two and half year contract. He had fallen out in Rovers boss, Sam Allardyce’s books so it was a good deal for all parties concerned.

  • Daniel Cousin (loan from Hull City to Larissa)

Hull City have loaned out Gabon international, Daniel Cousin to Greek side Larissa. The striker had barely made any impact for the Tigers as he started one game and played as a substitute in two games this season. Overall, he’s scored four goals for the club which came in the previous season. With the arrival of Amr Zaki his requirement was not seen by manager Phil Brown.

  • Alan Hutton (loan from Spurs to Sunderland)

Sunderland have signed Scottish right back, Alan Hutton on a loan deal until the end of the season. He comes in to add reinforcements to Steve Bruce’s side and also provide width on the wings. The player had failed to become part of Spurs’ plans so far this season with just one start and seven substitute appearances in the league to speak of. Its a good move for Hutton as he gets regular playing time now and Spurs are able to trim their squad.

  • Victor Moses (Crystal Palace to Wigan Athletic)

Roberto Martinez has signed highly rated youngster, Victor Moses from Crystal Palace in what is believed to be a £2.5 million signing for a period of three and a half years. The player had been tracked by many clubs in the English top flight. Many pundits believe he is one of the signings of the winter transfer window. Remains to be seen!

  • Marcus Bent (loan from Birmingham City to QPR)

Bent has agreed terms with Championship side, Queens Park Rangers for a loan deal running up until the end of the season. The player had lost out his place in Birmingham’s squad to Christian Benitez and Cameron Jerome while interest was also shown in Spurs’ Pavlyuchenko and Sunderland’s Kenywyne Jones, however neither of the deals could materialise.

  • Stefano Okaka (loan from AS Roma to Fulham)

Fulham have strengthened their attacking abilities by acquiring the services of Okaka until the end of the season on loan basis. The Italy under-21 had played against Roy Hodgson’s side in the Europa League where he impressed the Fulham boss.

  • Robbie Keane (loan from Spurs to Celtic)

In literally, the last transfer of the day and the winter transfer window, Robbie Keane moved from Spurs to Celtic on a loan deal running till the end of the season. Keane who had returned from Liverpool a year back had failed to make place for himself in Spurs’ starting lineup. Defoe and Crouch had been Redknapp’s choice when it came to strikers. Its a good move for Keane to get playing time.

  • Mido (loan from Middlesbrough to West Ham United)

West Ham United desperately needed reinforcement when it comes to attacking and they have made their intentions very clear that they won’t lay low and try to avoid relegation without putting up a fight. After signing Benni McCarthy and Brazilian Ilan, Egyptian Mido becomes the third striking option now available to Zola.

Any transfers that I missed? Which was your pick of the lot? Lets hear ya!

Yeah probably. And mind you, Mido is a good forward but he’s just too inconsistent.
